Respiratory Tips for Patients

Since Breathing Is Something We Can Control And Regulate It’s A Useful Tool For Achieving A Relaxed, Clear State Of Mind

I recommend you get in the habit of doing breathing exercises to help relax and reduce stress in your daily life.

An good example of a breathing exercise is once often referred to as, “belly breathing” or “baby breath. It’s one of my favorite forms of breathing exercises.

Here's How To Do It:

Sit in a chair
Place your feet firmly on the ground
Place your hands, palms facing in, and put rest them gently against your belly
Take a deep breath from your abdomen (sometimes referred to as your “diaphragm.”)

Be careful not to breathe from your chest.

As you inhale, your belly will move outward.

A good example of this breathing practice is the way babies breathe. When a baby breathes, their belly distends. When they exhale, their belly goes in.

Try this breathing technique a few times and see how it works for you. I think you’ll feel immediate benefits from it. Be patient. It may take your body a little while to get used to it.

Mediation and Relaxation

Stress can often be a par of dealing with medical challenges. Day to day pressure can make you stressful, anxious, tense, or worried.

Meditation can help you wipe away negative feelings and emotions. It’s a great way to calm and help you restore your inner peace.

The good news is, anyone can practice meditation. It's simple and inexpensive, and it doesn't require any special equipment.

Cleaning Your Equipment

Do you use a nebulizer, humidifier bottle, or nasal Cannula?

If so, I recommend you get in the habit of cleaning your equipment on a regular basis. It will work more efficiently and reduce infection.

You can clean almost any breathing device by mixing a teaspoon of “Dawn” liquid detergent with warm water. Make sure the water is nice and sudsy.

You can also clean your equipment with 1 part white vinegar and 4 parts water.

In my opinion, soapy water seems to work best.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Day

Have you found that going outside on hot humid days is more difficult for you to breath? If so, you should stay inside on hot, and mid-summer days.

Treat Yourself To A Cruise

Many people with COPD or other respiratory restrictions think they can

no longer enjoy many of life’s pleasures, like taking a cruise.

That’s not necessarily true.

You don’t have to stop enjoying your life. You can still go on a cruise with your loved ones – IF you take the right precautions.

I have connections with respiratory experts who can help you with your cruise. They’ll make sure you have appropriate oxygen and related supplies on hand. These folks specialize in caring for people with COPD.

If you want to enjoy the wonderful world of cruising, you can! In many cases, a specialized respiratory therapist can go on the cruise with you. They work closely with cruise lines so you and others with COPD can still sail on the high seas.

Should you need assistance, you’ll have the assurance of knowing your personalized respiratory specialist is right there, on the ship, to help you.

Music For The Lungs. 'Breath Easier' By Playing The Harmonica

Recently I have been helping my patients "breath easier" by having them play the harmonica.

My patients are typically in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and private residences. Research has shown that patients with respiratory issues such as COPD and OCD, are breathing easier after a week or two of playing the harmonica. I even provide the harmonicas for them. The combination of music and breathing is beneficial and rewarding.

You may not think so, but you can learn how to play harmonica, and sound good, in less than 3 months – with no hard sweat and tears?

Do you want to get so good you'll be able to confidently play the songs you love for family and friends?

If you can give me a minimum of 7 minutes, 3 times per week I’ll have you impressing people in no time. Here's why...

1. "No-Practice" Harmonica Lessons

Skeptical? How can anyone get good at anything without practicing? The same way kids do. YOU PLAY!

All you've got to do is be willing to jam along with my 7 minute video lessons and I can hand deliver you to a level your friends go “WOW!” Just grab your harmonica (in the key of C) and cue up the video and jam along.

Once you finish one video, you move on to the next. You never have to practice alone because I will be playing with you and showing you exactly what to do every step of the way.

2. Just 7 Minutes, 3 times a Week & I'll Get You Sounding Great.

The second common problem with learning the harmonica is people just don't have enough hours in the day. I made sure my lessons were designed in such a way that you can progress with just 7 minutes, 3 times a week.

Seriously - with my 7 minutes lessons I'll have you playing the songs you love in no time at all. The more you play along with my videos the faster you improve! If you can’t give me a minimum of 7 minutes, 3 times per week then these lessons are probably not for you.

3. Fun and Easy Step-by-Step Lessons

Whether you're brand new to the harmonica, or a non-musician, or even if you've been playing harmonica for a while but not getting anywhere, my harmonica lessons will take you by the hand, all the way to becoming a fully competent harmonica player - step-by-step.

Each lesson cleverly builds on the previous one in such a way you don't even realize you're in the learning process.
